By 1933 the iconic Cloche hat which was so dominant in the 1920s was replaced by exciting new French styles. The beret – not exactly anything new to the French – was certainly a novelty for many women in the USA and others European countries. Not all imported French berets were alike. there were many different grades and whether a woman got the genuine article or not depended largely on her choice of purchase. Here is the famous Continental Beret which rivaled the best of Paris berets. As with the 1920s cloche hat, the beret has never really disappeared from modern modes.
