This Rare 1970s Makeup Tutorial Restored — And It’s Fascinating

Women learned the art of makeup the old-fashioned way. Long before beauty influencers and online tutorials. Practised at the dressing table, and perfected over time. This rare 1970s instructional film, from the Glamourdaze archive, captures that lost ritual in wonderful detail — walking through the complete vintage beauty routine from skincare prep right through to the final coat of nail varnish.

From the era’s beloved luminescent frosted eyeshadow and iconic high-shine lip gloss, to perfectly feathered lashes and that signature sun-kissed blush. It’s a fascinating and beautifully preserved window into how the decade’s most iconic looks were actually created, as it happened.

About the Restoration

Restored to Life - 1970s Makeup Tutorial

Suffering from heavy yellow cast and noise damage, this rare film has been digitally restored with an Eastman process colour grade simulation and reconstructed to a smooth 48fps. A period-style narration, newly scripted and voiced by artist Marion Braithley, gives the film the authentic voice it never originally had. Music by Hara Roda from Epidemic Sound completes the atmosphere.

Watch it as it was always meant to be seen.
