Wartime utility fashion advice from Pathe 1943 –
Fashion expert Anne Edwards shows us how !
That old dance frock is just a waste of good material in wartime. Lets cut the skirt to a daytime length.
Out of the piece of material you cut off, you get the yoke and sleeves for your new frock. make yourself a paper pattern for the yoke and use an old dress pattern for the sleeve.
Pin the straight of the patterns on to the straight of the material and cut out.
Make up the yoke and sew it into the neck.
Then pin it on to the skirt, ready for sewing.
Now sew in the sleeves and shoulder pads. Then stitch a piece of ribbon or braid to cover the seam joining your new yoke to the frock.
And there you are. The dance frock that was idling in the wardrobe is now a day frock doing a war job !
And it goes nicely with a turban !
That’s all !
