How were the styles of women’s fashion in the United States influenced by World War II during the 1940s?

Tia argues that while the short term impact of war on fashions as a result of rationing [ which was not as severe as in the UK or in Europe ] brought about many strict limitations and sacrifices – that in the long run it had a positive impact on women’s fashion as new styles along with the true birth of the consumer age took off in strides after the war ended.
She discusses the direct influence which the outbreak of war had on fashion [ the make do and mend culture ], the changing silhouettes [ the war production boards strict clothing guidelines – e.g “a woman’s skirt could be no wider than 198cm around ! ” Learn how the Limitation Order or L-85 affected the 1940s dress code “by restricting and limiting certain fabrics, dyes, shoes, styles, and other fashion items! ”
Women became very clever with making do with what they had.
